| Oak Leaves and Acorns 52" x 11" / Eastern Hard rock Maple I thoroughly enjoyed carving this traditional design. It is the center facing for a very elegant fireplace mantel. Although the 'oak leaf and acorn' motif is traditional, this is very much a Butterfield Original. There is a huge 200-year-old oak tree on my property, so I harvested branches of leaves and acorns to use as my models. In addition, instead of the flat front found in most mantels, I carved this bowed face and topped it with a matching crown molded top. This one could be in a museum. |
